The challenge

Messaging apps are the most commonly used mobile app. In most European countries, the most popular one is WhatsApp thanks to its simplicity and security. However, the basic functionality of WhatsApp does not meet the nowadays increasing requirements for the social network. For example, adding new contacts via WhatsApp is very time-consuming. If the user wants to gain his/her social network from a party, which is the most common chance to meet new friends in European culture, he/she has to type the new telephone numbers one by one. Many WhatsApp users are looking for alternative one, which is convenient, simple and secure.

The solution

I am designing a new messaging app providing basic messaging functions with more advanced features. In this App, users can add new contacts by shaking phones. Like Kahoot, group conversation can be joined in by typing the name of the group and users who haven't installed the App yet can use the basic communication function in the browser. Besides, new AI functions will be also added. For instance, the newest Natural Language Understanding algorithm can help users detect the topic from a long message or massive messages from one group. It will improve communication efficiency. The main difference from other messaging apps is that users can set the "type" of the conversations. There are three designed "type"s can be set: 1. "Public": public conversations can be found by users who meet the set requirements (e.g. nearby users) of this conversation; 2. "Protected": protected conversations can be utilized by the AI functions mentioned above; 3. "Private": all messages in private conversations will be end-to-end encrypted, which is for protecting users' privacy. This App is potential to be extended to more use cases. For example, business/organization can use the "Public" conversation to host an event. Newest UX design concepts will also be implemented in this App. Every conversation/chat will be look like a "card". That is the name "CHARDS"(chart card) mean.
